 Richmond Beach Coffee Company was founded in October 2001 as a community-focused coffee shop and café. Today that tradition lives on with owners Cathy Forinash and Christy Miller. They acquired RBCC in December 2007 infusing their vision and energy into every aspect of the business.
Cathy lives in Richmond Beach with her husband, Greg, and their three children. Cathy and Greg are life-long residents of Shoreline and North Seattle. Cathy’s restaurant experience includes managing Arnies in Edmonds for nearly 15 years. Cathy serves as our General Manager where her energy and sense of humor are contagious. Greg is our Facilities Manager where his talents with tools and operational efficiency are a real blessing.
Christy is a Seattle native and lives in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle. She continues her day job at Impinj – a technology company in the Fremont neighborhood where Cathy and Christy first met. As the Not-so-silent Partner, Christy’s contribution is in menu development and in sourcing many of RBCC’s natural food products.
So how did two middle-aged women working in technology end-up buying a coffee shop together? Great question! They took a trip to Spain and Italy and loved the coffee so much that when Cathy saw RBCC was for sale, they bought it.
The rest is history and community…
RBCC was founded by four friends who believed that life is too short to postpone the pursuit of dreams. They also believed in the closeness of family and friends, and set to work to create a place of community. One of the founders, Linda Lyons, was terminally ill when they envisioned the neighborhood coffee house. Tragically, Linda passed before she would see RBCC in operation. Her memory is always with us in the Red Chair with the red Double Happiness cushion, and the large coffee artwork displayed over the pastry case.
The building that houses Richmond Beach Coffee Company was originally a service station. The large doors opened bays for auto repair. Ron Norton was a mechanic at the service station. Today Ron is the Webmaster for RBCC and generously supplies a computer for customers to use.
